NL Verzuim Makes Absence Training Lasting and Effective with Microlearnings via LesLinq

NL Verzuim is far from a traditional occupational health service. As a modern absenteeism support provider and organizer of absence-related training, NL Verzuim takes a different approach – more personal, more effective, and with greater focus on practical application. That same philosophy applies to their training programs. Because learning doesn’t stop when the training ends – that’s when it really begins.

Absence is Custom Work – and So Is Training

Absence is as varied as the people experiencing it. No two situations are alike. That’s why NL Verzuim offers practical trainings on topics such as absence guidance, the Dutch “Wet verbetering Poortwachter” (Gatekeeper Improvement Act), sustainable employability, and more. These trainings are aimed at supervisors and HR professionals, always with a focus on directly applicable knowledge.

However, the challenge with training is that newly acquired knowledge fades quickly. To prevent that, NL Verzuim searched for a way to make knowledge stick – and found the answer in microlearning via LesLinq.

“Often, people leave a training session with their heads full of new information. But that knowledge fades quickly. That’s why we chose spaced learning through microlearning. Repetition trains the brain to retrieve information from long-term memory, which helps the material stick,” says Marcus Leguijt, Registered Absence Case Manager at NL Verzuim.

Spaced Learning with Impact

Now, for every training session, NL Verzuim creates short, interactive microlearnings using LesLinq. These are sent to participants after the training via email or SMS. Participants can review key insights in an easy and engaging way, on their own time. This approach aligns perfectly with the well-known Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve: without repetition, knowledge fades quickly – with repetition, it stays.

Interactive instructions

LesLinq is also used as a complement to their software packages RegieActief and FitTerug. Instead of long pieces of text, sick employees and supervisors receive instructional videos with clear explanations.

Example: Microlearning on ‘Frequent Absence’

The first microlearning NL Verzuim developed focused on conducting effective conversations about frequent absenteeism. A critical topic, as poor absence management can have serious consequences for both employer and employee. In collaboration with the LesLinq studio, the microlearning was built using interactive elements, questions, and visual support.

“The interactive elements in LesLinq make the microlearning fun to complete and help keep participants actively engaged. That results in even better retention of knowledge.”

Insights and Follow-Up

An additional benefit? NL Verzuim can see exactly who has completed the microlearning – and who hasn’t. This enables targeted follow-up to ensure the knowledge really sinks in across the board.

“We’re super enthusiastic about the possibilities LesLinq offers. We can now easily create fun, interactive training that truly has an impact.”

The Result: Training That Sticks

Thanks to LesLinq, NL Verzuim enhances its training programs with smart repetition, greater engagement, and improved learning outcomes. Employees learn at their own pace, through a channel that suits them – and the knowledge truly sticks.
